Putting Your Dog to Sleep at Home

Why a home visit?

For many dogs, the car journey, the waiting room and the smells of a surgery are frightening, especially when they're old, poorly or in pain. A home visit means your dog can stay in their own bed, on the sofa or out in the garden, surrounded by the people they love. Big dogs, nervous dogs and dogs who can no longer walk far often benefit the most, because there's no need to lift them into a car.

Who comes to your home

We are a small, independent mobile practice. Clara is our veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) and Estelle is our registered veterinary nurse (RVN). The two of us come to every visit together, so your pet is always cared for by the same two people from start to finish.

What happens on the day

  • We arrive quietly, explain everything and answer any questions. Nothing starts until you are ready.

  • We always give a sedative first. Your dog becomes deeply relaxed and drifts into a calm sleep while you stay close.

  • Once they are fully asleep, Clara gives the final injection. It works quickly and peacefully, and your dog feels no discomfort.

  • Clara confirms they have passed, and you can take as much time as you need.

Other pets and children are welcome to be there, or to spend some quiet time with your dog afterwards.

Prices for dogs

  • Home euthanasia only (no cremation): £300

  • With communal cremation (no ashes returned): £340

  • With individual cremation and ashes returned home: from £535

All prices include VAT. Full payment is taken when you book. See all our prices.

How quickly can you come?

Because there are only two of us, we can't promise every time slot. When we have availability, same-day visits are often possible, sometimes within 2 hours. If you need us today, the quickest way is to call us or message us on WhatsApp.

Aftercare and memorial options

  • Free keepsakes: if you'd like them, we take a paw print, a nose print and a vial of your dog's fur for you to keep. There's no charge for these.

  • Individual cremation: we take your dog to Leyland Pet Crematorium, where they are cremated on their own. You can choose the scatter tube or casket from Leyland's memorial range, and we bring the ashes back to your home ourselves, usually within 5 to 7 days.

  • Communal cremation: your dog is cremated alongside other much-loved pets. The ashes are not returned.

  • Home burial: choose euthanasia only, and you are free to lay your dog to rest at home.

We're happy to talk through the memorial options before your visit, so you don't have to decide anything on the day.

Memorial options for individual cremation

With individual cremation, your dog's ashes come home in the memoril option you choose. Each price is the total for everything: the home visit, sedation, euthanasia, individual cremation and the urn or casket. You choose when you book, and there are photos of each one further down this page.
